Primo Tuba Quartet
The Primo Tuba Quartet started in April 2007 from players of the Northamptonshire County Youth Brass Band. They are Rory Cartmell (1st Euph), Jonti Smith (2nd Euph), Andy Johnson (1st Tuba), Matt Jolley (2nd Tuba). The Head of Brass at Northampton Music Centre, Peter Smalley, had done many arrangements and original compositions for the British Tuba Quartet so he was able to help us find some music to play. With some help from Rachel Coles and Brad Turnbull we have been able to create a group with a wide repertoire. In 2008 so far we have performed in two concerts. The first of which was a concert with the Leicester South Salvation Army Band at which we played two short sets and the second of which was a concert with trumpet soloist Ian Facer. We also entered the National Festival of Music for Youth. In the regional event of this competition we Verdi's Overture to the Force of Destiny for which we recieved excellent feedback from the adjudicator and Peter Smalley, the arranger of the piece. As a result of this performance we were invited to the National event which took place at The Adrian Boult Hall in Birmingham. Here we played JS Bach's Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor BWV 582. Again we recieved alot of positive feedback for the performance. We have now also been lucky enough to be invited to the Schools Proms which will take place at the Royal Albert Hall.
